Asylum law

We are thrilled to announce the release of our Greek Jurisprudence Collection, a vital resource for asylum seekers and legal professionals navigating the complexities of the asylum process. As a legal aid association dedicated to supporting asylum seekers, we are proud to present this comprehensive compilation of legal precedents and case studies.

This collection brings together 32 extracts of decisions on applications for annulment and suspension issued by the Administrative Courts of first instance of Athens and Thessaloniki over a period of 18 months, from November 2021 to March 2023, in asylum cases handled by lawyers working for ELA. It covers issues such as the recognition of health vulnerability, the concept of safe third country, unlawful justification, free legal aid and access to justice, and more.

The collection has been translated to English and is available in both languages following the link in our bio.

The present collection allows us to emphasize the vital importance of protecting the rights of asylum seekers. An incorrect administrative or judicial decision that leads to the forced return of an asylum seeker to their home country or a seemingly "safe" third country can have severe and irreversible consequences. It affects their dignity, living conditions, integrity, and even their very survival.

The quotes we share here are real stories of individuals who, against all odds, managed to have their voices heard. However, this is not an easy feat, as asylum seekers in Greece face numerous obstacles in accessing administrative justice. The system they encounter is complex, expensive, and often fails to address their unique needs.
